Scum film title sequence
SCUM is an experimental title sequence created for an independent film, using illustration, typography, animation and bold colour to introduce the film’s provocative and unconventional world.
I developed a deliberately raw, punk-inspired visual language, combining hand-drawn imagery with distorted, block-like typography and an intense palette of electric blue, pink, red, yellow and orange. Characters and imagery emerge, disappear and transform across the sequence, while abrupt changes in colour, composition and scale create a sense of energy, rebellion and unpredictability.
The imagery plays with ideas around sex, identity, social expectations and counterculture, using humour and provocation to reflect the attitude of the film rather than simply presenting traditional opening credits.
Created through a combination of graphic design, illustration and motion, the sequence explores how a film’s titles can become part of the storytelling itself — establishing character, atmosphere and attitude before the narrative begins.
